Advanced Driver Assistance Systems
What is ADAS?
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, or ADAS as it’s known are built-in technologies on modern vehicles that are designed to automate, adapt, or enhance vehicle and driver safety.
ADAS checks things such as braking, motion-activated sensors, speed and steering tasks, then either automatically takes action or sends an alert to the driver. So, things like Road Sign Detection Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, all of which use cameras to detect the position of the vehicle and other road obstacles.
Why do ADAS need calibrating?
ADAS systems require recalibration due to general wear and tear, maintenance or after repairs are carried out in order to continue to work effectively. It’s crucial these are done as any discrepancy in the actual readings and those of the system can cause issues and jeopardise quality and safety.
Calibration records the accuracy of the measuring device and ensures that it is within the manufacturer’s specifications
There are two possible calibration methods, static calibration, and dynamic calibration. Most cars require one or the other, while some require both. If you’re unsure which you need, our qualified experts will be able to guide you on what is best for your vehicle.
